RATTLESNAKE ENCOUNTER!

We crossed this guy while hiking in Virginia, luckily for Moose the rattler has a very audible warning system otherwise she would have stepped right on him! At an easy three feet or longer, this behemoth basically took up the whole trail where he was basking in the sun. Don't be fooled by the distance, Teton used his trekking poles to get the close-up but this time he duct taped the two together giving him about eight feet of distance between the snake and himself. This was still far too close for comfort and made Teton quite shaky and anxious. We captured a lot of footage trying to provoke him off the trail so we could pass (we literally had no other way to get around it) but the snake didn't seem too interested in leaving. He never struck the camera as Teton had anticipated and prepared for; we learned later that rattlers generally take more aggressive provoking to spring into action (which we were happy to hear). This clip is the last we got before he decided to finally retreat back into the rock out cropping on the side of the trail. Again poor audio due to the camera's waterproof casing.
