On Saturday I participated in the Great Iowa River Canoe and Kayak Race. This annual race covers 9 miles of the Iowa River from the Sturgis Ferry access just south of Iowa City to the Hills access point down in Hills Iowa. There was a great turnout this year and the weather was perfect! I participated in the company challenge with my boss, we were fighting to earn our names on the traveling paddle trophy and the chance to display the paddle proudly in our store. After an intense 1 hour and 41 minutes in a Wenonah Spirit II we were pretty beat but we had achieved our goal of winning and the paddle trophy will return to Fin & Feather! If you ever have the time or opportunity to do this stretch of the Iowa River I would highly recommend it, peaceful scenery, slow bends, and plenty of nice sandbars to pull off on.
